Module Description: This module deals with Musical Direction in a large ensemble context (note: ensemble consisting of greater than ten players). The student engages with organizing, rehearsing, conducting and leading a concert featuring a large ensemble. The performance will include a pre-existing score as well as music arranged by the student. Additionally, the student is presented with the challenge of arranging and conducting a short passage of specified music at short notice (a "sting").
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Show an awareness of and respond to the practical considerations encountered when leading a large ensemble
LO2 Prepare arrangements of approved music for large ensemble
LO3 Respond appropriately in performance to feedback received on arrangements
LO4 Conduct and lead a performance featuring original arrangements and a pre-existing score
LO5 Arrange, rehearse, conduct and perform short arrangements for large ensemble specified at short notice

Continuous assessment
Each individual student is monitored on a weekly basis. The continuous assessment mark is comprised of attendance, preparedness for and contribution to the weekly class
Conducting
An exploration of the techniques needed to organize, rehearse and conduct a large ensemble, including a pre-existing score. The student will operate as a conducter and not as a player in the ensemble
Arranging
Preparation of arrangements for large ensemble
