Module Description: This model introduces students to the nature of Irish law, the making of new laws and the Irish court system, terms of contract and to the concept of tortious liability.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Identify the historic nature and concepts of Irish Law, the Irish court system and the legal system in Ireland.
LO2 Interpret the different elemants of Contractual Liability with reference to relevant case law.
LO3 Distinguish and interpret the different aspects of the law of contract in the professional and commercial world with reference to relevant case law.
LO4 Explain the knowledge of the law of Tort andn discuss the duties and obligations it imposes on employers and individuals

Indicative Content
Irish Legal System
Concepts and development of Irish law, the Irish court system, the concept of civil and criminal wrong.
Terms of Contract
The essentials of contractual liability and relevant case law, relating to terms of the contract, validity of contract, privity of contract, expressed terms, implied terms, conditions and warranties, discharge of contract remedies for breach of contract, damages and injunctions.
Torts
The nature of tortious liability, trespass, nuisance, negligence, Rylands vs. Fletcher liability, remedies for tortious behaviour
Expert Witness
The roll and responsibilty of the expert witness
