Module Description: This module will describe the principles, design and operation of various building services for domestic and commercial buildings
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Discuss and illustrate services for tall buildings
LO2 Analyse and solve condensation risk analysis problems
LO3 Describe and sketch gas heating and air-conditioning systems for commercial buildings
LO4 Design the electrical protection for a domestic building
LO5 Analyse and solve roof drainage design problems
LO6 Select and describe appropriate services for domestic and commercial applications taking into account how these impact on the time and cost of a project
LO7 Explain and describe various waste management strategies

Introduction to air conditioning and air conditioning systems. Condensation risk analysis
Drainage Systems & Waste Management
Roof drainage design. Municipal waste treatment. Waste management.
Services for Tall Buildings
Design, operation and safeties of hydraulic and roped lifts. Boosted water supplies. Refusal disposal systems.
Electricity & Fire Protection
Principles of electricity generation. Electrical protection equipment and equipotential bonding. Fire Safety Systems
Gas Heating Systems
Non-domestic gas installations and appliances.
