Module Description: This module will equip the learner with the tools and techniques necessary to undertake and effectively manage a global project using contemporary project management techniques.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Evaluate key elements of contemporary global project management
LO2 Critically appraise and manage the global project using performance measures and benchmarking
LO3 Critically analyse how project management evaluation methodologies can be applied globally
LO4 Critique the use of partnering and strategic alliances in project management

Management techniques, methodologies and key performance metrics used to manage, monitor and evaluate the global project; key performance indicators and benchmarking; monitoring techniques; cross cultural teams; software applications used by the virtual team. Information Technology in construction
Lean concepts and tools
Background to Lean construction and the required tools. Sources of waste within the production/construction environment. Problem solving techniques
Project Evaluation
Evaluation of projects; why projects fail; risk quantification, evaluation, control and response; project disaster recovery techniques; effective project close out
Partnering and Strategic Alliances - Globally
Benefits and limitiations of partnering; strategic alliances and the legal implications; cross-cultural project teams
Project management in developing countries
Appropriate technologies; labour intensive construction; technology transfer; cultural awareness
