Module Description: To enable students to develop a critical understanding of a variety of roles that finance plays in an organisation. As well as developing an understanding of the principles of financial and management accounting, students will understand the compliance, reporting and controls required to support decisions making in modern, complex, dynamic business environments. Students will also develop a range of analytical skills to allow them contribute actively to developing, enhancing, supporting and contributing to financial activities that occur in many organisations, including investment appraisal, pricing, budgeting and various financial reporting compliance requirements.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Analyse and interpret financial statements
LO2 Communicate financial priorities to management and communicate how these priorities could be addressed
LO3 Evaluate key elements of financial processes such as forecasting and investment appraisal.
LO4 Critically analyse the financial implications of various business strategies
LO5 Apply and evaluate a variety of financial forecasting techniques such as regression and time series

Roles of Financial and Management Accounting, Treasury and Tax
Profit and Loss - Purpose and Structure, Balance Sheet - Purpose and Structure, Cashflow Statement - Purpose and Structure, Profitability and Working Capital considerations, Forecasting and Budgetary Control, Overview of Treasury and Tax functions.
Management Accounting
Compliance, reporting and controls relating to Capital Expenditure (Relevant Costs, NPV, Payback, IRR). P+L and Cashflow forecasting. Company Valuation Considerations (Net Assets, DCF, P/E)
Financial Projections
Forecasting techniques include single and multiple regression and time series

Company Valuation, P/E, Capital Structure
