banner1
Title:Control for Process Industries
Long Title:Control for Industrial Delta-V Systems
Module Code:PHYS7009

Duration:1 Semester
Credits: 5
NFQ Level:Intermediate
Field of Study: Physics
Valid From: Semester 2 - 2021/22 ( January 2022 )
Module Delivered in 2 programme(s)
Next Review Date: January 2025
Module Coordinator: Donagh OMahony
Module Author: JAMES BARRETT
Module Description: This module will deal with material concerning process control theory and practice applicable to industry. It will enable students to gain an in-depth understanding of process control concepts and theory (first and second order systems, time vs frequency domains, s-plane, system stability, etc)
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Understand transfer functions and block diagram algebra as used in control theory.
LO2 To identify the dynamics of first and second order systems.
LO3 Analyse the s-plane and frequency domain of systems to determine stablity.
LO4 Use of Delta-V process simulation programmes to apply control theory.
Pre-requisite learning
Module Recommendations

This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is strongly recommended before enrolment in this module. You may enrol in this module if you have not acquired the recommended learning but you will have considerable difficulty in passing (i.e. achieving the learning outcomes of) the module. While the prior learning is expressed as named MTU module(s) it also allows for learning (in another module or modules) which is equivalent to the learning specified in the named module(s).

Incompatible Modules
These are modules which have learning outcomes that are too similar to the learning outcomes of this module. You may not earn additional credit for the same learning and therefore you may not enrol in this module if you have successfully completed any modules in the incompatible list.
Not Applicable

No Co-requisite modules listed
Requirements

This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is mandatory before enrolment in this module is allowed. You may not enrol on this module if you have not acquired the learning specified in this section.
