Module Description: This module aims to provide the learner with a detailed understanding of and the ability to apply skills related to quality assurance and monitoring methods appropriate to an industrial advanced manufacturing environment.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Apply the benefits of quality assurance.
LO2 Use statistical methods to monitor process metrics
LO3 Understand the assessment tools of process control testing.
LO4 Formulate methods of optimising process yield.

Indicative Content
Introduction
Total quality in organisations. The Kaizen Principle.
Process Assessment Tools
Process control for attribute and variables data. P-charts. Process capability index. Introduction to Six Sigma process. Taguchi loss function.
Graphical Tool Monitoring
Pareto charts, cause and effect diagrams (Ishikawa). Failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA). Scatter plots.
Process Optimisation.
Brainstorming, Overall Equipment Effectiveness, mistake proofing techniques. Control of Variance.
