Module Description: The aim of this module is to provide the learner with the knowledge and skills to develop and present a research project proposal. The proposal will form the basis for the completion of a research dissertation
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Identify a suitable related topic and develop a research statement.
LO2 Analyse and review a range of literature.
LO3 Develop appropriate research methodologies.
LO4 Determine an appropriate research design.
LO5 Write a Research Project proposal.

Definition of the meaning of research. Identification of a research question. Development of the research statement. Examples of research.
Lierature Review.
Library sources: Books, on-line journals, industry relevant publications, web sites. Use of search techniques. Topic focus. Critical reading. Referencing. Ethics.
Research Methodologies.
Quantitative and qualitative research. Interview techniques. Questionnaire design. Experiments. Observation techniques.Participant selection. Sampling techniques. Ethical research.
Research Design.
Research theories. Research strategies. Project management. Gantt Charts.
Dissertation proposal writing.
Dissertation layout. Composition techniques. Dissertation structure. Critical thinking.
