Module Description: This module develops the skills required to research, develop, manage and design a solution to a specified electronic project. It develops the student's ability to search for information, communicate with their peers, develop a prototype solution and it prepares the student for a career in an engineering environment.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Create a solution for a specified electronic engineering problem statement
LO2 Develop a project plan for an electrical or electronic engineering project
LO3 Adopt the role of project manager and manage an engineering project
LO4 Communicate project plans and project outputs to peers and engineering staff
LO5 Use appropriate design tools, approachs and techniques to investigate, revise and test the proposed project solution.

Module Content & Assessment

Indicative Content
Electronic/Electrical Engineering Project
Project selection, preliminary work, detailed project plan, minutes of meetings with project supervisor, information searching; develop solution design and test using appropriate engineering tools, order components, revise solution as required. Project coursework will be carried out on an individual basis by the student under the direction of a project supervisor/sponsor who will normally be a course lecturer and internal examiner.
Management
Management process, organisation structure, role of project manager and project staff, effective meetings, project planning and creating project plans, work break-down structure, deliverables, Gantt chart, estimating resources and costs, budget, Microsoft Project.
Skills
Effective information searches using the internet, report writing, plagiarism, designing and delivering presentations, practice presentations, managing time.
