Module Description: The module introduces the learner to a basic experience of throwing as a means of expression of ideas, the learner specifically develops for the throwing process.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Produce ideas, develop ideas and execute ideas suitable for throwing.
LO2 Identify, collect and make creative use of visual material relevant to the development of the ideas
LO3 Understand and execute clay preparation techniques suitable for the throwing process
LO4 Produce simple shapes on the wheel, monitor and control the drying process
LO5 Demonstrate basic proficiency in throwing and turning.

Indicative Content
Creative Idea Development
Creative idea development and expression through throwing skill appropriation.
Throwing Techniques
Clay preparation, Throwing, Turning, Appliances. Work with the shapes in leatherhard stage, add applications where appropriate, finish shapes.
Workshop practice, health and safety
Workshop discipline, health and safety Work in throwing area appropriately and safely with respect for co-workers.
Drying
Understand the various stages of drying clay and be able to monitor and control the drying process.
