Module Description: This module has been designed to demonstrate the characteristics of a) ventilation systems, b) air conditioning systems.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Draw typical layouts for mechanical building services elements.
LO2 Describe the technical design requirements for mechanical building services elements.
LO3 Describe the safety and environmental requirements for mechanical building services elements.
LO4 Size mechanical building services elements using industry standard methods.

Ventilation
Need for ventilation. Air Change rate. Duct work materials and fittings. Sizing of duct work. Fan Selection. Measurement of air flow. Balancing.
Air Conditioning.
Objective of air conditioning. Air Handling Unit components. Air Filters. Heat Pump and Split systems. Dehumidification.
Psychrometrics
Psychrometric processes applied to Air Conditioning.
Safety and environmental.
Assessment of hazards, operational safety and environmental issues.
