Title:Design Detailing
Long Title:Design Detailing
Module Code:ARCH7005

Duration:1 Semester
Credits: 5
NFQ Level:Intermediate
Field of Study: Architecture & Urban Environment
Valid From: Semester 1 - 2019/20 ( September 2019 )
Module Delivered in 2 programme(s)
Next Review Date: April 2024
Module Coordinator: Samuel Vardy
Module Author: Anne Rogers
Module Description: This module introduces students to interior architecture detailing and the process by which a design concept can be realised through considered material selection & application.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Understand and evaluate the impact of details, junctions, fixings and surfaces on interior architecture strategies.
LO2 Understand & evaluate 'fit for purpose' material selection in interior architecture design projects.
LO3 Illustrate an understanding of how to convey the technical details of an interior space in a scaled, dimensioned & annotated detail/working drawing.
LO4 Communicate a coherent interior architecture design proposal from concept to detailed design.
Pre-requisite learning
Module Recommendations

This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is strongly recommended before enrolment in this module. You may enrol in this module if you have not acquired the recommended learning but you will have considerable difficulty in passing (i.e. achieving the learning outcomes of) the module. While the prior learning is expressed as named MTU module(s) it also allows for learning (in another module or modules) which is equivalent to the learning specified in the named module(s).

Incompatible Modules
These are modules which have learning outcomes that are too similar to the learning outcomes of this module. You may not earn additional credit for the same learning and therefore you may not enrol in this module if you have successfully completed any modules in the incompatible list.
No incompatible modules listed

Requirements

This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is mandatory before enrolment in this module is allowed. You may not enrol on this module if you have not acquired the learning specified in this section.

Module Content & Assessment

Indicative Content
Interior Architecture Detailing
Principles of interior architecture detailing and it's impact on the success of both domestic & non-domestic projects. Emphasis is on how to deal aesthetically with the practicalities of junctions & fixings, and how they are expressed in the walls, floors, ceilings and fixtures/fittings that form a space.
Materials & Finishes Selection
Materials & finishes selection, how they are composed and applied for walls, floors, ceilings, fixtures/fittings. Emphasis is on arriving at 'fit for purpose' & sustainable design solutions that define the character of an interior space.
Detailed Drawings
Drawing standards & conventions used to produced a comprehensive detailed drawing package that illustrates & describes design intent.
