Title: | Water Services Engineering |
Long Title: | Water Services Engineering |
Field of Study: |
Civil Engineering
|
Valid From: |
Semester 1 - 2019/20 ( September 2019 ) |
Module Coordinator: |
DES WALSH |
Module Author: |
LEONARD O DRISCOLL |
Module Description: |
This module provides the learner with an advanced level study of Water Services including water and wastewater systems. Drinking water engineering design includes, assessment of water sources (quality and quantity), estimation of water demand, municipal drinking water treatment plant design and distibution system design. Municipal wastewater design includes the design of municipal wastewater treatment plants, as well as sludge disposal. |
Learning Outcomes |
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to: |
LO1 |
Evaluate the water quality in a catchment and surface water |
LO2 |
Operate water testing equipment, perform calculations and interpret results. |
LO3 |
Identify sources of water demand and perform preliminary water treatment plant design |
LO4 |
Perform preliminary design of water distribution systems |
LO5 |
Carry out preliminary process design of a municipal wastewater treatment plant |
Pre-requisite learning |
Module Recommendations
This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is strongly recommended before enrolment in this module. You may enrol in this module if you have not acquired the recommended learning but you will have considerable difficulty in passing (i.e. achieving the learning outcomes of) the module. While the prior learning is expressed as named MTU module(s) it also allows for learning (in another module or modules) which is equivalent to the learning specified in the named module(s).
|
|
Incompatible Modules
These are modules which have learning outcomes that are too similar to the learning outcomes of this module. You may not earn additional credit for the same learning and therefore you may not enrol in this module if you have successfully completed any modules in the incompatible list. |
No incompatible modules listed |
