Module Description: This module studies current and contemporary issues relevant to the hospitality sector. This module is delivered on an accelerated basis over 6 weeks.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Source data relevant to the current business climate in the hospitality and tourism industry
LO2 Source, review and analyse key hotel industry surveys and its application to current and future business trends
LO3 Identify current issues and challenges in the Internal Hospitality environment.
LO4 Evaluate the current issues in hotel operations and implications for Operations management

Implementation of programmes in relation to waste, water, energy, sources of product (air miles), chemical use. Green Failte Awards Programmes and other structured initiatives.
Human Resources - Issue and Challenges
Current and emerging issues in Human Resource Management in the tourism and hospitality environment, Managing people in a hospitality work environment
Operations Management in Hospitality
Integration of Ops, Marketing and HR in hotel operations, current issues and trends in hospitality
Industry Analysis and Issues
Hospitality trends and latest statistics, Review of Hotel Industry Survey and tourism figures. Internal analysis of Hospitality businesses.
