Module Description: The learner will undertake a 30 credit work placement. The placement will provide the student with an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge gained on their programme and the integration of scientific principles in commercial operation. The placement is supported by a dedicated, Industry Placement and Development Officer and an academic staff member together with a workplace mentor. The aim of the placement is to introduce the learner to structured employment in a relevant work sector and to develop in the learner an understanding of the organisation and its procedures.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Prepare career documents including Curriculum Vitae, cover letters, Linkedin profiles, and application profiles.
LO2 Critically analyse the enterprise, its culture and organisation.
LO3 Apply professional practice within the workplace in relation to technical and managerial issues.
LO4 Use and apply initiative skills whilst working alone and in teams.
LO5 Analyse and solve workplace problems through the application of knowledge, skills, and competencies.
LO6 Apply appropriate written and oral communication skills required of the professional practitioner.
LO7 Reflect on, and analyse the learning outcomes experienced during their work placement process.

The Enterprise
Enterprise structure and processes, quality assurance systems, health and safety, IT systems, interrelationships and interfaces.
Professional Practice
Apply professional practice such as social, environmental, ethical, health, safety, legal, personnel, economic, financial and commercial considerations and responsibilities.
Communication
Communication processes within the enterprise, emails, meetings, presentations, project planning and delivery.
Problem Solving
The analysis of work-place problems and proposed solutions.
Team Work
Function in teams, conflict resolution, and leadership.
Entrepreneurial Skills
Apply the idea generation in the context of the regulatory obligations on the enterprise.
Relective Work Practice
Reflect on the placement process in the context of the knowledge and skills prior to placement and the continuous development throghout placement. Reflection on the next step and career prospects.
