Module Description: This module will help students develop the PC skills they need to be successful in study and beyond. It will show students how to combine features from multiple applications to produce professional business documents and reports.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Produce professional business documents and reports using a wordprocessor
LO2 Organise, analyse and report business information using a spreadsheet tool.
LO3 Communicate and share business information using a presentation tool
LO4 Manage and update business data using a database tool.
LO5 Combine elements of PC applications to produce a professional business report.

Module Content & Assessment

Indicative Content
Text formatting, page margins, line spacing, indenting, paragraphing, headings, document layout, headers/footers, bullets and numbering, tables, borders and shading, Table of Contents, Mail Merge, Word Styles, Word Templates. Inserting and formatting graphical pictures and objects; printing, saving and sharing. Importing, embedding and formatting content from other applications
Formatting data, viewing, printing and sharing workbooks. Basic calculations & functions (sum, average, min, max, count, simple if); Absolute cell and mixed referencing, tables, charts, conditional formatting, Lookup functions; Pivot Tables; worksheet linking and data consolidation. Importing data from MS Access, Exporting data to Word and Powerpoint for presentation.
Presentation Tool
Creating slides, formatting text, slide numbering, footers, inserting graphics, pictures; use of SmartArt tools. Slide view navigation(outline; normal; slide sorter; slide show). Use of design themes, master slides. slide transitions and custom animation. Sharing presentations. Importing content from other applications.
Database Tool
Introduction to database concepts such as primary & foreign keys, referential integrity, data types and relationships. Planning and designing databases; creating tables, queries, forms and reports. Exporting data to Excel and other applications
