Module Description: The first in a series of progressive, practical, skill-centered modules. Directed study in basic vocal techniques required to develop awareness of the different skills required in era specific styles of music theatre singing.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Outline the basic techniques of vocal production required for Legit and popular/belt singing
LO2 Demonstrate core technical ability through presentation of basic repertory in both Legit and popular/belt vocal styles
LO3 Present vocal studies appropriate to both Legit and popular/belt vocal styles
LO4 Apply technical skills to perform a previously unseen song in either Legit or popular/belt vocal styles
LO5 Reflect on vocal learning, research and individual practice for Legit and popular/belt vocal styles

Module Content & Assessment

Indicative Content
To develop core breathing and vocal technique through exercises and vocalise addressing basic technical challenges to include sustaining long notes and to secure pitch.
Repertory Studies
Introduction to music theatre repertoire appropriate to Legit and popular/belt vocal styles specific to a prescribed era.
Analysis of repertoire identifying different techniques required such as development of head voice for Legit vocal style and chest register for popular/belt vocal style.
Music Literacy
An introduction to basic sight reading skills appropriate to level and vocal style.
Reflective Practice
Reflect on practice and progress through blog facility on Canvas.
