Module Description: A study of Irish folksong from historical and social perspectives, incorporating a detailed study of the sean nós tradition and the various regional styles.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Formulate new research on aspects of the Irish folksong tradition
LO2 Evaluate folksong traditions through active participation
LO3 Analyse ornamentation and innovation within the tradition
LO4 Assess the various song types within the tradition
LO5 Contextualize the song tradition historically and socially
LO6 Engage in active class discussion and contribute to subjective evaluation
