Module Description: This module enables the learner to continue to develop his/her knowledge of Music Therapy, with particular reference to work with children. It also provides access to musical, academic and interpersonal experiences relevant to: (i) developing as a sensitive and flexible performer, music teacher or community musician; (ii) pursuing a postgraduate training in Music Therapy.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Identify how Music Therapy has the potential to address the needs of individuals and groups
LO2 Examine and discuss the clinical work of a range of music therapists, using appropriate language
LO3 Demonstrate basic keyboard, percussion, vocal and guitar skills as relevant to a therapeutic context.
LO4 Lead music-making activity with an awareness of therapeutic possibilities

Indicative Content
Knowledge and Context
Reflective examination of the clinical work of a range of music therapists, with an emphasis on work with children. Related contextual knowledge in the areas of health and education.
Practical skill development
Development of practical skills in the area of keyboard, voice, guitar and percussion, and examination of how these could be applied in the Music Therapy context.
Placement
Observation/participation in at least one health or education setting and leading music-making with a therapeutic awareness.
