Title:Cloud Storage Infrastructures
Long Title:Cloud Storage Infrastructures
Module Code:COMH9004

Credits: 5
NFQ Level:Expert
Field of Study: Computer Hardware
Valid From: Semester 1 - 2017/18 ( September 2017 )
Module Delivered in 1 programme(s)
Module Coordinator: TIM HORGAN
Module Author: Eoin ORegan
Module Description: This module provides a comprehensive view of storage infrastructure for cloud based virtualised systems enabling IT-as-a-Service solutions. Cloud storage is a service model in which data is maintained, managed, backed up remotely and made available to users on-demand over a network as a shared pool of configurable storage that can be rapidly provisioned and released. As part of this module the student will learn how to create and manage storage for a virtualised data centre and cloud environment.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Analyse the components of a virtualised data centre and appraise the role of storage in it.
LO2 Design a information storage strategy for a cloud environment with due consideration for customer and regulatory requirements.
LO3 Design and create a storage network solution for a cloud based virtualised system.
LO4 Provision, manage and optimise a cloud based storage solution.
LO5 Analyse how best to provide reliable access to information both locally and remotely using storage technologies.
Pre-requisite learning
Module Recommendations
This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is strongly recommended before enrolment in this module. You may enrol in this module if you have not acquired the recommended learning but you will have considerable difficulty in passing (i.e. achieving the learning outcomes of) the module. While the prior learning is expressed as named CIT module(s) it also allows for learning (in another module or modules) which is equivalent to the learning specified in the named module(s).
No recommendations listed
Incompatible Modules
These are modules which have learning outcomes that are too similar to the learning outcomes of this module. You may not earn additional credit for the same learning and therefore you may not enrol in this module if you have successfully completed any modules in the incompatible list.
No incompatible modules listed

No Co-requisite modules listed
Requirements
This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is mandatory before enrolment in this module is allowed. You may not enrol on this module if you have not acquired the learning specified in this section.
