Module Description: An introduction to theatre sound & lighting technology
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Recognise and describe the principal items of equipment used in theatre sound & lighting
LO2 Rig and operate basic sound reinforcement and lighting equipment including control desks
LO3 Observe and demonstrate a good knowledge of the health and safety requirements of working with electricity in the theatre
LO4 Demonstrate an understanding of plans and cue sheets for light and sound design

Health & Safety
A rigorous grounding in essential physical and electrical health & safety practices in the theatre including working at heights
Electrical Fundamentals
Current, cabling and connectors
Lighting Basics
Different lamp and lantern types and their uses, colour gels, dimmer circuits and the control desk and its software
Sound Basics
Theatre acoustics, sound reproduction equipment, microphones, cabling, amplification and the sound desk
Planning & Plotting
Drawing up plans and plotting sound and lighting designs
