Module Description: The second in a series of modules that examines the practical considerations of songwriting. This module focuses on helping the student create a demo, or portfolio of recorded original material. Additionally, the students are enabled to look at the functional aspect of song composition i.e. composing songs for a specific brief, such as mood, style, length. Lastly, the student is facilitated in engaging with an online presence.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Present a portfolio of recorded original songs
LO2 Present notated lead sheets of the recorded portfolio
LO3 Compose to a specific brief, such as mood, length, style
LO4 Display a developed online portfolio

Module Content & Assessment

Indicative Content
Composition
The composition of songs based on a given brief (theme, length, mood etc). The acquisition of stylistic nuance will be cultivated by the study of particular styles and subsequently composing in that style
Portfolio
The presentation of a portfolio of original compositions, complete with notated leadsheets of same
Online presence
The demonstration of adequate self-promotional skills and awareness of the importance of promotion through the presence of a developed online presence focussing on the student's original songs
