Module Description: This module will introduce the learner to Python as a programming technology that can be used in a general sense within a number of problem domains, as well as in the specific case of developing applications for cloud computing environments.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Design programs to solve given problems.
LO2 Develop programs using Python as a programming language to automate and perform common tasks.
LO3 Explain Python's role within a cloud based software development setting.
LO4 Apply Python to a number of software problems within the cloud computing domain.
LO5 Automate and manage an application written in Python within a cloud computing infrastructure.

Learning Python
Understanding how Python handles data: numbers, strings, lists, dictionaries and sets. Processing Python's data structures: control structures, loops and comprehensions. Structuring Python code: functions, modules, packages and files. Engineering Python code: objects, classes, and OOP (with Python).
Using Python for common tasks
Understanding how Python handles data: numbers, strings, lists, dictionaries and sets. Processing Python's data structures: control structures, loops and comprehensions. Structuring Python code: functions, modules, packages and files. Engineering Python code: objects, classes, and OOP (with Python).
Using Python for IaaS and cloud service deployment
Scripting your cloud architecture using Python cloud libraries to deploy, manage and monitor cloud services (IaaS and PaaS) using Python libraries such as boto and Apache LibCloud
Creating Scalable Web Applications with Python
Python on the web: Moving from CGI, templates, and web protocols (HTTP, URL, etc) with traditional Python Web Frameworks: Django, web2py, etc to cloud scale web application deployment using platforms such as Google App Engine
Using Python for cloud scale Automation and Management
DevOps (Development + Operations): Cloud scale configuration and deployment tools: Working with Ansible and Fabric to manage consistent and scalable configurations on the public cloud
