Module Description: |
This is the first in a progressive series of skill-centered modules. It provides intensive directed study of the basic core instrumental/vocal skills required to enable students to develop their performance potential. The module is delivered through instrument-specific group lessons that introduce the importance of ensemble collaboration in conjunction with the technical and musical instruction. |

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to: |

Display comfort with basic instrumental/vocal skills. |

Demonstrate core technical ability through the presentation of basic repertory. |

Apply technical skills to play a basic unprepared piece at sight. |

Present etude repertoire appropriate to his/her chosen instrument. |

Consolidate basic core technique on chosen instrument.

Etudes:
Introduction to a broad range of material addressing specific technical and musical challenges.

Reading:
Consolidate basic reading skills.

Group Lessons:
Introduction to ensemble skills including listening, interaction and peer collaboration.

Scales and Arpeggios:
Introduction of basic scales and arpeggios as appropriate to chosen instrument.

Metronome Skills:
Consolidate basic metronome exercises that lay the foundation for solid internal time.

Repertory Engagement:
Introduction to basic level analysis of repertory specifically relevant to chosen instrument

Applied Instrument History:
Introduction to the history of chosen instrument that will be developed over future modules, eventually influencing stylistic musical choices.
