Module Description: Music Technology Portfolio. Students present a major and a minor portfolio in Computer-Based Music Applications AND Practical Recording & Studio Technology. If the major portfolio is chosen from one section the minor portfolio MUST be chosen from the other section. The major/minor weighting is 70/30.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Conceive and realise an individual professional artistic audio project using the computer as principal tool.
LO2 Conceive and realise professional audio projects in the studio and associated audio processing facilities.
LO3 Critically describe and use analogue and digital audio production techniques in a professional manner.

Module Content & Assessment

Indicative Content
Major Portfolio
A learner submitting the Major Portfolio section of this module will a) prepare a CD of approximately 20 minutes duration that represents their ability to perform, record, master and produce to a high standard. Whilst the portfolio will incorporate various facets of the recording process it will also exhibit the individual creative and artistic abilities of the student and may incorporate other aspects of multimedia, e.g. video or animation; or b) create or compose a substantial interactive electronic composition approximatiely 15 minutes in length showing extensive knowledge of the various audio manipulation tools available in the CSM. The nature of the piece will be approved via proposal process.
Minor Portfolio
A learner submitting the Minor Portfolio section of this module will a) prepare a CD of not less than 10 minutes duration that represents their ability to perform, record, master and produce to a high standard. Whilst the portfolio will incorporate various facets of the recording process it will also exhibit the individual creative and artistic abilities of the student and may incorporate other aspects of multimedia, e.g. video or animation; or b) create or compose a interactive electronic composition at least 7 minutes in length showing extensive knowledge of the various audio manipulation tools available in the CSM. The nature of the piece will be approved via proposal process.
