Module Description: This module has been developed to demonstrate the characteristics of facilities systems such as a) plant layout b) electricity supply c) water treatment d) compressed air e) relevant standards f) cleanrooms g) fire systems.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Analysis Facilitie utilities for effectiveness & Efficiency
LO2 Identify and optimize costs associated with installation and management of facilities utilities
LO3 Determine compliance to standards and best practices applicable to facilities engineering.
LO4 Consider ethical and environmental issues in facilities management.

Indicative Content
Plant Layout
Relative orientation of work centres.
Electricity
3 Phase supply, Maximum Demand, Power Factor Correction, cost of electric power, Lighting, Energy saving.
Water Treatment
Standards, potable, softened, deionised, water for injection.
Standards
ÌSO 9000, cGMP -Current Good Manufacturing Practice, ISO 14000, Health and Safety at Work act.
Compressed Air
Compressors, Air treatments: driers, coolers, filters, quality of compressed air, storage, distribution, fittings, leak management
Cleanrooms
Classification. Design, Ventilation, Air Conditioning.
Fire Systems
Detection systems, extinguishers, sprinkler systems, Building Regulations (Fire) TDG B.
Waste Management
Type of waste: solid, fluids. Storage, method of reduction: compacting, filtering, seperation. Contamination prevention, bunge walls
