Module Description: This module will provide students with an understanding of the potential issues associated with the complexities of managing an international workforce.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Analyse the strategic options available to organisations operating under the context of international human resource management.
LO2 Discuss the potential implications associated with a multicultural workforce in terms of work norms and HR practices.
LO3 Assess the differences between the practicalities of domestic and international human resource management practices.
LO4 Critically evaluate the implications and potential of practices such as shared services and outsourcing.

The Organisational Context
Globalisation and international strategy and structure options. IHRM strategic options.
Cultural Implications
Workforce diversity and cultural diversity. Concepts of convergence and divergence. Implications of national culture for communication, employee norms, values and management. Practicalities of a multicultural workforce; teleconferencing, formal and informal, written and oral communication.
Domestic and International HRM Practices
Performance Management; Goal setting, feedback, reward. Recruitment and selection. Expatriation and repatriation. Corporate social responsibilty and ethics. Cultural implications for IHRM practices.
