Module Description: This module is aimed at students who have completed at least 3 years of a German course from beginners level, and who wish to strengthen and deepen their existing German language skills. This module assumes an existing minimum level of ability in German of CEFR A1.2 in all participants.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 describe (in English) the geography and topography of Germany, Switzerland and Austria
LO2 understand a basic level of spoken German
LO3 speak basic sentences in the present tense and the spoken past tense
LO4 write basic sentences and short paragraphs in German
LO5 comprehend basic texts in German

Module Content & Assessment

Indicative Content
Landeskunde
The geography of Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Populations. Economies and branches of industry.
Language content
General and everyday German, e.g. daily routines, family, hobbies and leisure, introductions. Vocabulary-building exercises.
Grammar
Revision of the present tense and the spoken past tense. Use of articles and cases.
