| Module Description: |
This module develops and extends existing vocabulary on a range of everyday and business topics. In addition to Business German, this module also includes German-language Film Studies, and the analysis of short stories and poems by modern authors, providing a well-rounded appreciation of the German language.
Completion of this module results in attaining a level comparable to that of the mid-point of Level B1.1 as described in the Common European Framework of Reference for language proficiency. |
| Learning Outcomes |
| On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to: |

use German etiquette and behavioural norms to negotiate effectively in the German-speaking environment; |
| LO2 |
comprehend a reasonably complex level of spoken German in everyday and business contexts; |
| LO3 |
speak German, in business and everyday situations requiring negotiation and resolution; |
| LO4 |
write extended paragraphs, projects, letters and emails in German; |
| LO5 |
comprehend, interpret and/or translate authentic materials in German such as business correspondence, product descriptions, charts, tables and graphs, at an intermediate level. |

German for Business
behavioural norms in the workplace; business correspondence; problem-solving and negotiation; responding to job advertisements; negotiating holiday time; operating instructions for office equipment; understanding pay slips and the German tax system.

Listening Skills
Group and paired dramatic role-playing; audio materials; film materials.

Speaking Skills
Advanced CALL programmes; group and paired dramatic role-playing (e.g. manager/employee scenarios).

Writing Skills
Writing business correspondence to customers and employees (e.g. invoices, late payment notification or information about job interviews or further training).

Reading skills
Reading moderately complex authentic tests (such as longer newspaper, internet or magazine articles, as well as short stories and poems) in German.

Grammar
Areas of revision include: relative pronouns and relative clauses; revision of Modal Verbs, prepositions, conjunctions, Noun genders/ plurals/weak nouns
