Module Description: An introductory course in Financial Accounting by maintaining the books of account of a business in the Tourism and Hospitality sector
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Explain the terminology used in financial accounting and the concepts and basis underpinning financial accounting
LO2 Discuss and describe the accounting equations and record the transactions for sales, purchases, returns, assets, liabilities, expenses, revenue and capital
LO3 Prepare appropriate Financial Accounts for a business
LO4 Prepare bank reconciliation statements

Introduction to Accounting
Terminology in accounting, use of financial accounts and accounting concepts and bases
Double Entry Accounting
The accounting equation, accounting for sales, purchases, returns, expenses, revenue, assets, liabilities and capital, balancing accounts, preparing a trial balance
Financial Statements
Preparation of financial statement for businesses operating in the tourism and hospitality sector from trial balance to final accounts
Bank Reconciliation Statements
Preparation of adjusted cash books and reconciliation of these to bank statements
