Module Description: This module is an introduction to the primary concepts of management in organisations. It will be taught with specific emphasis on the role of Financial Controllers. The module will also consider general factors in today's business environment.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Identify the main principles of management, with a particular emphasis on the Finance Function.
LO2 Analyse the roles and skills of a Financial Manager in an organisation.
LO3 Trace the historical development of management theory.
LO4 Describe the main functions of management and how they impact on the Finance Function.
LO5 Explain the significance of management theories in a changing business climate.

Planning and Organisational Goals, Types of Plans, SWOT Analysis, Goals & Plans for the Finance Function.
Organising
Job Design, Departmentalisation, Reporting Relationships, Distributing Authority, Organisation Structure & Design.
Controlling
Steps in the Control Process, Types of Control, Financial Control, Managing Control in Organisations.
Leadership
Effective Leadership, Leadership Styles, Leadership Qualities for Financial Managers, Power, Politics.
