Module Description: This module is an examination of the nature, concepts and skills involved in the management of a modern Hospitality Enterprise
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Explain the role and functions of the Rooms Division Department in the hotel and demonstrate a knowledge of the laws relating to the provision of accommodation.
LO2 Describe the product offerings in the accommodation sector and explain the range of operational issues affecting the acccommodation sector.
LO3 Identify the responsibilities of various Front Office positions.
LO4 Apply and use a Hospitality Property Management System .
LO5 Identify and explain best practice in Rooms Division with an emphasis on current trends.

The accommodation product in the context of guest needs, grading structures, linen and laundry, purchasing and equipment selection.
The role of Rooms Division
The management, structure, staffing and financial contribution of the department.
Rooms Division Theory & Technology
Responsibilities and role of the Room Division Manager. Selling in Rooms Division. Customer profile, maximising revenue and occupancy. Factors influencing purchasing decisions and the role of reception office as a sales department. Promotional materials and front office database maintenance
Best practice in accommodation
Changes in technology, quality issues,security, trends in customer expectations and staff orientation.
