Module Description: This module will examine further the concepts of strategic management, to identify the strategic direction and options, evaluation and implementation of strategy.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Analyse data from tourism/hospitality/retail case studies to identify strategic theory and develop solutions based on practical application.
LO2 Recognise and explain the term 'strategic fit' from a structural, resource and corporate culture perspective.
LO3 Identify and examine the different strategic directions available to a business.
LO4 Examine the relationship between strategy and competitive advantage for a modern tourism & hospitality enterprise.

Analysis of the options available to an organisation. Generic Strategies, Stability strategies, Expansion strategies, Retrenchment strategies. Strategy Variations, Strategic choice.
Strategy Implementation
Inter-organisational relationships, stakeholder management in tourism,. Organisational design and control. Building essential capabilities, competencies and resources for strategic tourism businesses. Industry best practice & support systems
Strategy Evaluation
Control mechanisms, feedback and crisis management
