Module Description: With the continued use and improvements in Robotics, PLC's, Safety and Drives, there is a need for these systems to integrate and communicate with each other through common industrial networks. Programming to achieve this integration can be complex.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Integrate components across CAN Open, ProfiBus, ProfiNet and Ethernet networks.
LO2 Integrate of PLC's and Robotic systems using common programming languages.
LO3 Integrate PLC's and Servo Drive systems.
LO4 Integrate Vision systems with PLC's and Robotics.
LO5 Use Soft Motion Control for the control of Servo Drive positioning.

Module Content & Assessment

Indicative Content
Industrial Networking
Program PLC's to control Servo Drives, Vision systems & Robotic interaction with mechatronic systems across CAN Open, ProfiBus, ProfiNet and Ethernet.
Integration of PLC's and Robotics
Program a PLC to communicate directly with a Robot. Also Program the Robot to receive and send information to the PLC.
Integration of PLC's and Servo Drive systems.
Program Servo Drive Controllers to communicate with a PLC in a discrete manner. Program the PLC to give positional control data to the Servo Drive controller.
Vision systems
Program Vision Systems to determine location, shape and orientation of objects. Program PLC's and Robotic systems to use the information from the vision system.
Soft Motion Control
Introduce Soft Motion Control for the control of Servo Drive positioning, demonstrating the use of CNC code embedded within a PLC function block.
