Programme Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this programme the graduate will be able to demonstrate... :

PO1 Knowledge - Breadth
  (a) A detailed knowledge and understanding of studio practice as it relates to Applied Art and Ceramics and demonstrate their ability to clearly articulate the theory, concepts and methods pertaining to applied art with particular reference to their own area of investigation and specialisation.
  (b) Current knowledge in relation to the real world professional practice in relation to applied art.
  (c) Thorough knowledge of health and safety standards.
PO2 Knowledge - Kind
  (a) Detailed theoretical and technical knowledge in a range of subject areas within ceramics and applied art practice, be able to utilise this knowledge to create a resolved body of artwork demonstrating an effective synthesis of practical, theoretical and conceptual knowledge and skills and be able to evaluate and discuss their own artwork within a broader contemporary historical context.
  (b) Understand the relevance of traditional knowledge and skills and the interplay with new technologies.
PO3 Skill - Range
  (a) Mastery of the tools, materials and techniques required to produce ceramic and applied art work within their area of practical specialisation, conduct purposeful experiments with a range of processes and materials that are equivalent to or extend the boundaries of existing knowledge or skill; and collaborate with other artists and professional bodies in the organisation and exhibition of artwork in a professional manner.
  (b) Communicate effectively within to peers, practitioners and external audiences.
PO4 Skill - Selectivity
  (a) Appropriate judgement in regard to their own practice and the practice of others based on informed research, analysis and critical judgement, and communicate concepts, methodologies and outcomes both visually and verbally to their peers, fellow practitioners and the viewing audience.
PO5 Competence - Context
  (a) The implications and applications of creative solutions in a variety of contexts; apply critical thinking with regard to their own art practice and its outcomes and evaluate and discuss art practice within a broader social, economic and aesthetic context.
  (b) Confidence to access professional networks and the skill base, through transferable professional practice projects that are engaging of diverse audiences.
PO6 Competence - Role
  (a) Self motivated and directed art practice, incorporating acquisition of skills, analysis and critical debate commensurate with independent professional practice; and implement or collaborate with other artist/designers and professional bodies in the creation, organisation and exhibition of work in a professional manner.
PO7 Competence - Learning to Learn
  (a) Acquired knowledge, skills and competencies independently to their own art practice, manage learning tasks independently, professionally and ethically and be able to take responsibility for his/her continued learning.
PO8 Competence - Insight
  (a) Create ceramic and applied art works that support or challenge personal and social beliefs, values, traditions and practices and be aware of their role as artists in a National and European context and the critical and active contribution they can make to the social and economic development of their environment.
  (b) Communicate clearly the nature, remit and critical context of their own practice.
